Las Vegas woman turns herself in after fatal pedestrian accident

Auto-pedestrian accidents are violent enough, but when a driver flees the scene of a fatal collision, the violation becomes psychological as well. Family members are left searching for answers, and in some cases, an investigation can take months. Families who are grieving in the wake of a fatal accident do have legal options for seeing justice done.

These concerns may arise after a recent pedestrian accident in Las Vegas. A 60-year-old man was struck and killed while he tried to cross a road close to Saddle Avenue. The accident happened at around 11 p.m. on May 11.

The driver left the scene of the accident before police arrived, and the Nissan Exterra involved in the crash was located, apparently abandoned, later that night. The vehicle was parked several blocks away from the site of the collision.

Investigators began to search for the driver, who turned herself in the following evening. The is 33-year-old Las Vegas resident now charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian, a misdemeanor, and the felony of leaving the scene of an accident.

She could very well be faced with civil allegations as well. Wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits are ways of holding negligent drivers accountable in civil court. Successful wrongful death claims show the court how a person's negligence led to the death of another party.

In this case, a criminal conviction could strengthen any civil lawsuit should the deceased man's family decide to file one. Even in cases that would seem to be quite clear, plaintiffs need experienced attorneys to ensure a favorable outcome.
