Las Vegas man opens up about motorcycle crash to raise awareness

This past May was Motorcycle Awareness Month in Nevada, but there's no good reason not to extend the focus on increased awareness into June and beyond. Motorcycle accidents are a serious problem in Las Vegas. Distracted, drunk or otherwise negligent driving leads to serious injuries and death for riders, who by the very use of their bikes are far less protected than drivers of larger vehicles.

Last year in Las Vegas, one man suffered a collapsed lung, brain damage, a fractured back and 14 fractured ribs when a pickup truck turned left in front of him. The man tried to brake, and when he did, his motorcycle flipped over and pinned him against the truck. He even had tire marks on the back of his jacket after the crash.

He was wearing protective gear at the time, but his injuries were still extremely severe. Doctors induced a coma, and the man remained under for a week. After he was released from the hospital, he was unable to return to his work in an ice cream shop because his injuries were so serious. His brain damage would also make returning to school extremely difficult.

This wasn't the first time the man was involved in a motorcycle accident. In two previous crashes, the other drivers were distracted or otherwise negligent. One of the accidents involved a drunk driver, who crashed head-on into the man and his best friend, who sadly died when he was decapitated in the crash.

Motorcycle accidents are some of the most violent on Nevada roads. Las Vegas-area residents who have been injured because of another driver's negligence may want to explore their legal options for holding the responsible party accountable.
