Drunk driving accident: Las Vegas motorcyclist dead

Drinking and driving is one of the most dangerous acts a driver can commit. Vision and good judgement are requirements when driving, and alcohol seriously impairs these abilities. Any drunk driving accident is tragic, but even more tragic is a drunk driver killing one of the most vulnerable people on the road, a motorcyclist. A Las Vegas man was killed this past week as a result of somebody getting behind the wheel of a vehicle, who is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol.

The 67-year-old Las Vegas man was riding his motorcycle near Tropical Parkway and Decatur Road at around 3:30 a.m., when a 46-year-old man, also from Las Vegas, struck him with his car. According to the preliminary investigation, it appears that the 46-year-old was traveling north on Decatur in his Toyota Sedan, when he hit the motorcyclist from behind. Apparently the driver of the car made no attempt at slowing his vehicle when the accident occurred.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene. The Las Vegas coroner's office ruled that the death was caused from blunt force trauma to his chest. According to the Las Vegas police, alcohol did play a factor in this accident. The driver of the car was immediately taken to the Las Vegas city jail on charges of a DUI causing death and failure to obey a traffic control device.

Tragic accidents like this one are a harsh reminder that it is never acceptable to get behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking alcohol. The surviving family members will mourn this loss forever, and will now face the financial burden of preparing for an unexpected funeral. The family of the deceased retain the right to file a claim for financial retribution against the man responsible for killing their loved one, as a result of this terrible drunk driving accident.
