Vegas woman accused of causing serious pedestrian injuries

Alcohol and drugs should never be mixed with driving. This can result in serious pedestrian injuries, and sometimes fatalities. Recently in Las Vegas, two pedestrians were purportedly injured by a woman who police suspect was driving under the influence.

The operator of the vehicle was a 24-year-old woman who police allege had taken narcotics prior to getting behind the wheel and driving. She lost control of her Lincoln Navigator and left the street, at which time she struck two pedestrians on the sidewalk. Her SUV went on to strike a light pole as well as a tree.

Both of the women that were hit sustained serious injuries. They were transported to a nearby hospital to receive necessary medical treatment. It was not clear if the 24-year-old female driver sustained any injuries as a result of the accident.

When drugs and alcohol are consumed by a person who then gets behind the wheel, serious damage can occur due to the driver's negligence. In this particular case, a woman is accused of seriously injuring two innocent women. Once an investigation is completed, the 24-year-old driver may face a DUI charge, which can result in penalties, such as suspension of her driver's license, jail time, and hefty fines. As of right now, no charges have been filed.

Even if the woman were to be exonerated of her criminal charges, she could still be held liable for her actions in civil court. The Las Vegas court system permits victims to instigate personal injury claims to recoup financial damages. Successful claims could result in the reimbursement for medical expenses, lost wages as well as pain and suffering which stem from such victims' pedestrian injuries.
