Motor vehicle crash: Head-on crash claims motorcyclist's life

As the weather improves with the onset of spring, there may be an increased number of motorcyclists on Nevada roads. Motorists and motorcyclists alike will have to consider each other to avoid accidents. A motor vehicle crash that involves a motorcycle typically has devastating consequences. However, even if no motor vehicles are involved, the injuries suffered in motorcycle accidents are often fatal.

On April 18, two motorcyclists collided on Nevada 341 in the vicinity of Virginia City. Troopers of the Nevada Highway Patrol say they were called to the accident scene, where they found two riders with critical injuries. Preliminary reports indicate that a 47-year-old rider who was heading south failed to navigate a curve in the road and traveled into the lane of northbound traffic. A 62-year-old northbound motorcyclist was struck head-on.

Both riders suffered severe injuries. The northbound rider was airlifted to the hospital while the other one was transported by personnel of the fire department. The driver who crossed over the center line remained in serious condition a week after the accident, but the northbound rider succumbed to his injuries after five days. An accident investigation is underway, but authorities apparently do not suspect drugs or alcohol to have contributed to the accident.

Losing a loved one in a motor vehicle crash or motorcycle accident is a traumatic experience for family members and friends. The surviving family will also have to cope with the unanticipated hospital bills and end-of-life expenses. With sufficient evidence of negligence on the part of another party, financial relief may be pursued by filing a wrongful death claim in a Nevada civil court. Any monetary award by the court may ease the financial burden placed on the family.
