Metro Police investigating incident of pedestrian hit by a bus

According to statistics from the Nevada Zero Fatalities campaign, 60 pedestrians lost their lives in motor vehicle accidents in 2015. They also indicate that pedestrians who are struck by vehicles while they are on sidewalks make up 8 percent of pedestrian deaths in the state. Clark County officials reported that a collision involving a pedestrian hit by a bus occurred on a recent Saturday morning.

An accident report indicates that a fatality occurred near the Las Vegas Strip on the eastbound 201 bus line. An RTC bus reportedly mounted the sidewalk and knocked down a pedestrian at a bus stop. The 39-year old woman did not survive the accident. Clark County officials reported that this was the third pedestrian fatality in a matter of 11 days.

The driver operating the bus at the time of the accident was a 22-year-old employee of an agency that supplies bus drivers to RTC. The accident investigation is ongoing as Metro Police are trying to determine why the bus veered off the roadway and onto the sidewalk. The Clark County coroner ruled the woman's death an accident.

In an event of a pedestrian hit by a bus, the victim has little chance of survival. After losing a loved one in such circumstances, it will only be natural for the surviving family members to seek full accountability from all parties deemed responsible. They retain the right to pursue wrongful death litigation in a Nevada civil court. Along with the driver of the bus, other parties -- such as the owner of the bus and the driver's employer -- may be named as defendants. Before a monetary judgment for damages may be considered, the court will require negligence to be established by appropriate evidence.
