Motorcyclist dies when alleged negligent driver fails to yield

Motorcycle riders in Nevada put their lives on the line whenever they are out on the road. Unfortunately, operators of motor vehicles often fail to keep a lookout for motorcycles. A single inconsiderate action by a negligent driver can have fatal consequences for a motorcyclist.

The protection of motorcycle riders is typically limited to crash helmets and riding gear while occupants of automobiles usually often protected by airbags, seat belts and the framework of their cars. Las Vegas Metro Police reported a fatal crash that occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on a recent Wednesday. Metro Police noted that this was the 42nd fatal crash within its jurisdiction this year.

The investigation is ongoing, but a preliminary report indicates that an SUV driver allegedly turned left without yielding for an approaching motorcycle that was operated by a 22-year-old woman from Las Vegas. The bike reportedly smashed into the passenger side of the SUV, causing the rider to suffer critical injuries. She was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries later. The SUV driver was reportedly also taken to a hospital where she was released after receiving treatment for her injuries.

This is one of many avoidable deaths that have occurred on Nevada roads so far this year. The surviving family members of the woman who died in this crash may pursue financial relief to cover unanticipated losses brought about by the tragedy. A wrongful death claim may be filed in a civil court against the alleged negligent driver. Negligence will have to be established to the satisfaction of the court before a monetary judgment will be considered for documented emotional and financial damages.
