Your fun Las Vegas vacation - interrupted

Sometimes, you think you have the worst luck.

Over 40 million people visit Las Vegas in an average year-but you, of all people, are the one visitor who got into a car accident.

At least that's how it feels. You've never seen anyone else's Facebook photo feed from their Las Vegas vacation filled with photos of a smashed front end, billowing engine smoke or tire tracks. You wanted selfies with your best friends-not the Las Vegas police (not that anyone's asking them to pose).

But you're not alone. Hundreds of unlucky people like you get into car accidents on our busy streets. It probably doesn't come as a surprise that driving in Las Vegas is a challenge. Accidents are, unfortunately, somewhat unavoidable. Everybody's luck runs out sometime.

Wrong place, wrong time...wrong other driver?

No matter where you were when it occurred, or what kind of car you drive, you should know that the typical reasons for accidents here are the same as everywhere else:

  • Running a red light
  • Speeding
  • Failure to yield
  • Changing lanes improperly
  • Distracted driving

Speaking of which, did you know that talking or texting on a handheld cell phone while driving is illegal in Nevada?

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reports that sixty percent of collisions resulted in injury so far this year in 2016. Were you injured in the accident? Make sure you get yourself checked out afterward. Not every injury will hurt right away and not every injury will be visible to you.

Now what do I do?

Unlike the big shows you can see in Las Vegas, accidents aren't glamorous. They're not entertaining. You may find yourself back in your hotel room, carless, hurt and wondering how you're going to afford a major car repair and lost time at work when all you budgeted for was a vacation. How will you get home? What options do you have? Will insurance cover the trip to the hospital you made? What if the other driver is uninsured?

It's not the best time to make a gamble and take what your insurance company offers. Instead, talk to somebody with experience. A personal injury attorney can answer all of these questions and help you recover what you've lost. Your vacation doesn't have to end on a bad note.

Everyone in Las Vegas wants you to come back next year-happy and healthy and ready to have fun!
