Drivers involved in a pedestrian accident may receive citation

A pedestrian accident will likely cause serious injuries and emotional trauma. In order to decrease the number of these incidents, Nevada police are initiating a state-wide crackdown against drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. In 2014, almost 70 people were killed in a pedestrian accident, leading to this initiative to increase pedestrian safety.

So far in 2015, 10 people have been killed while walking on state roadways. Several factors may be the cause of pedestrian accidents, including distraction, recklessness, drunk driving or inexperienced drivers. No matter the cause, Nevada drivers may be liable for damages, both physical and financial, if they are involved in a pedestrian accident. Victims of these types of incidents should not suffer through the aftermath alone, as there are options available for legal recourse. This includes a personal injury claim or a wrongful death suit if the victim died from his or her injuries.

Nevada law enforcement is making the effort to increase awareness to this safety issue by issuing citations to offending drivers. So far, more than 100 citations have been written in Henderson, and another 70 citations were given by Reno police. These were written to drivers who failed to properly yield to people in crosswalks.

Pedestrian accidents are a serious concern in Nevada, particularly in areas with a high volume of foot traffic. When in a busy area, drivers are responsible for being vigilant and careful. After a pedestrian accident, injured victims may consider the option to seek financial compensation, but it is best to begin with a complete case evaluation in order to determine the best course of action.
