Wrong-way auto accident kills 1 and critically injures 2

Wrong-way drivers causing fatal accidents on Nevada freeways are causing mounting concern. About three weeks ago, two people lost their lives and two more suffered critical injuries in a head-on wrong-way auto accident that involved alcohol on Interstate 80. Two more people suffered critical injuries, and one life was lost in another wrong-way crash early on a recent Sunday morning in the same area, but on Interstate 580.

Accident reports of the Nevada Highway Patrol state that a 34-year-old driver was traveling south in the northbound traffic lane of I-580. It is alleged that the headlights of his car were off. He smashed head-on into a northbound SUV, killing the SUV passenger on impact and severely injuring the SUV driver. The wrong-way driver also suffered critical injuries, and both drivers were rushed to a hospital.

Three more vehicles were subsequently involved in secondary crashes, which also involved the parked car of a passerby who was lending assistance at the primary crash scene. Fortunately, all the occupants of these vehicles were reportedly not severely injured. During the ongoing investigation, police say the involvement of drugs and alcohol will be determined.

When a loved one's life is lost in an auto accident that was caused by the negligence of another party, the surviving family members have the right to pursue compensation for end-of-life expenses. Injured victims may seek recovery of medical expenses. With documented evidence of negligence, personal injury and/or wrongful death claims may be filed in a Nevada civil court. Successful presentation of such claims may lead to monetary compensation for financial losses related to the accident.
