Hit and run accidents occur more frequently than one might think and can wreak havoc on all of those involved.  It is especially heinous when a death is caused by an apparently negligent driver. An accident in Las Vegas on June 26 on a Sahara Avenue killed a 33-year-old local bicyclist. The auto accident occurred about 11:40 p.m. as the bicyclist was attempting to cross the road at Mohawk Street.

A small car, headed west, hit the bicyclist. The driver then fled from the scene of the accident, according to reports from the Metro Police. The bicyclist was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car that fled the scene turned himself in to police a short time after his initial departure. He was identified as a 40-year-old man who lives in Las Vegas. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and for leaving the scene of an accident.

Nevada victims who suffer injuries in an auto accident due to a drunk driver may benefit by speaking to a personal injury attorney who can help file a suit in a civil court for financial damages. The families of those who succumb to injuries in such an incident may opt to engage an attorney to sue the driver and any separate vehicle owner for wrongful death. In any civil litigation arising from a motor vehicle collision, the plaintiff will be required to prove negligence on the part of the party sued that is deemed to have caused or materially contributed to the accident and injuries or death that resulted.
