Determining negligence in multi-vehicle auto accident challenging

Nevada has a significant number of drivers on the roadway every day. Sadly, an auto accident is a daily occurrence in and around Las Vegas. Accordingly, drivers must be aware and cautious as they navigate local roadways. Unfortunately, many accidents result in serious injury or worse.

On a recent Monday, at 8:17 a.m., a multi-vehicle crash occurred near a Las Vegas intersection on Sunset Road. Five vehicles were involved, and a woman was killed. It took hours of investigation to determine who might be at fault for the accident.

At first, authorities believed that a semi truck ran into the vehicle of the woman who died and caused the chain reaction crash. After investigators reviewed surveillance video, gathered information from witnesses and from those involved in the accident, they determined that the semi driver was not responsible for the collision. They believe a woman driving an SUV was responsible for the rear-end collision.

It can be challenging to determine who may have been a negligent driver in a multi-vehicle auto accident like this one. Police attempt to separate witnesses to find out information before truths are distorted through conversations with others. When the gathered evidence suggests that negligence was the root cause of an auto accident, the injured victims typically have a right to sue for monetary damages. In Nevada, the family of a deceased victim may pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver deemed responsible. A successful claim cannot bring a loved one back to life, but it may help the surviving family feel that some sense of justice has been served while also providing financial relief for the damages that typically follow these kinds of tragedies.
