On Jan. 27, a pedestrian was struck and killed in Carson City. The Nevada Highway Patrol reported that another fatal pedestrian accident recently occurred only a short distance away from the scene of the January one. According to the Sheriff’s Office, extensive pedestrian crosswalk enforcement has been concentrated in that area over the past year. Sadly, this could not avoid the loss of another life.

According to an accident report, a 46-year-old female pedestrian was heading west in a crosswalk at an intersection in Carson City. The driver of a southbound van approached the intersection in the slow lane. The van struck the pedestrian, causing critical injuries. She was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

The Carson City Police handed the investigation over to the Nevada Highway Patrol. The Nevada Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (MIRT) is now handling the accident inquiry, as is common in serious accidents in which lives are lost. Investigators will also determine whether there was any indication of impairment concerning the driver and the victim.

The Nevada family members who have to cope with the tragic loss of their loved one in this pedestrian accident will likely have to face several financial challenges. Fortunately, they have the option to pursue financial relief by filing a wrongful death claim in a civil court. They will have to establish negligence on the part of the driver, but once that is done to the satisfaction of the court, a monetary judgment will be considered to cover documented financial and emotional losses.
