Alleged drunk driver from Reno arrested after pedestrian accident

Car accidents involving pedestrians are all too common in Nevada. One such accident occurred in Sun Valley on a recent Thursday evening. It was reported that an alleged drunk driver was responsible.

The Nevada Highway Patrol report indicates that the incident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. on a local roadway. Two pedestrians were allegedly struck by a minivan. Both victims reportedly suffered fractured bones, and they were taken to hospitals in the area. The conditions of both were reported to be critical.

No further details were made available about the circumstances of the accident, except that the driver of the car was a Reno resident who is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested and will now be facing DUI charges. The identities of the driver and victims were withheld. The road was closed during the course of the investigation, but it reopened after more than an hour.

Any person who is injured after being struck by a vehicle that was driven by a drunk driver may be suffering catastrophic injuries that may keep him or her hospitalized for an extended time. In addition to the burden of medical expenses, lost income may add to the financial stress of the situation. Fortunately, the judicial system of Nevada allows victims of such accidents to pursue recovery of damages. A personal injury claim may be filed in a civil court, and upon proof of negligence, the court may enter a monetary judgment to cover documented claims for financial losses and non-economic damages.
