Three vehicles were involved in a crash in North Las Vegas on a Wednesday night in late March. One person lost his life in the auto accident that was allegedly caused by a negligent driver in another vehicle. That driver was taken into police custody.
According to a preliminary accident report, the crash occurred at an intersection when a speeding westbound Jeep smashed into a southbound sedan. The impact of this collision caused both vehicles to careen across the intersection and slam into an eastbound SUV. The 32-year-old driver was the sole occupant of the sedan, and he died at the scene of the accident. The passenger in the Jeep and three of the SUV’s occupants were taken to a medical facility, but none of their injuries were reported to be life-threatening.
Reportedly, alcohol is suspected to have played a part in this fatal accident. The Jeep’s driver — who was later identified as a 19-year-old male — allegedly fled the scene of the crash on foot. However, he was located in the area and taken into custody within a short time. He was booked into the Las Vegas City Jail on felony charges related to hit-and-run and also charged with driving without a valid driver’s license.
The family of the man who lost his life in this auto accident retains the right to pursue recovery of damages by filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the alleged hit-and-run driver in a Nevada civil court. Upon establishment of negligence on the part of that driver, the court may consider entering a monetary judgment to cover documented claims. These may include all financial losses, along with non-economic and economic damages suffered.
