Pedestrian accident leads to arrest of alleged hit-and-run driver

Whenever a Nevada driver is involved in an accident that causes injuries to another person, he or she is bound by law to remain at the scene of the crash. That driver must check on the condition of the injured victims and call for assistance. Failure to do this -- whether it is a car or a pedestrian accident -- can lead to criminal charges and possible civil lawsuits.

Metro police arrested a 31-year-old driver after a recent incident in which a pedestrian was struck by a car in Las Vegas. Allegedly, the driver knocked down a 24-year-old man in a crosswalk. The man reportedly continued driving and later tried to flee on foot after abandoning the car. Onlookers in the area detained him and called authorities.

He was arrested, and he is now facing charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to stop at an accident scene along with one felony charge for hit-and-run. According to Metro police, there were no indications of impairment of the driver. The pedestrian suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and he was taken to a hospital with several fractured bones.

The victim of this pedestrian accident will likely have to face substantial medical bills that might wreak havoc on his finances. However, he will be entitled to pursue financial relief through the Nevada civil court. A personal injury claim may be filed against the driver, and once negligence is established, documented claims for financial losses and physical and emotional damages may be presented to the court for adjudication. Valid claims can lead to a monetary judgment.
