Losing a loved one in a motor vehicle crash is traumatizing under any circumstances. However, learning that an alleged drunk driver caused the accident will likely exacerbate the pain suffered by the victim’s family. The Las Vegas Metro Police reported that such a wreck recently claimed the life of a passenger.

According to an accident report, the fatal crash occurred shortly before midnight on a recent Saturday. A 20-year-old SUV driver was eastbound on a local road when his vehicle smashed into a parked semi-trailer. The impact of the collision reportedly caused the passenger side of the SUV to be ripped off.

A 19-year-old passenger in the SUV lost his life at the scene of the accident. The SUV driver apparently suffered only minor injuries for which he received treatment. Upon his release from care, he was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

When an alleged drunk driver is deemed responsible for the death of another person — even if that person was his or her passenger — the surviving family members may seek full accountability from that driver for all monetary damages sustained. They will be entitled to pursue claims for financial relief for economic losses related to end-of-life expenses and lost income along with emotional damages that were brought about by the tragedy. A wrongful death claim may be filed in a Nevada civil court. When financial liability is determined upon proof of negligence, the court can adjudicate documented claims for specific financial losses.
