Operating vehicles while intoxicated can have devastating consequences for passengers and others on or near the roadway. It is often noted that many a drunk driver who causes serious injuries and death to others walk away from the collision unscathed. The Nevada Highway Patrol recently reported one such a tragedy.

According to an accident report, a 29-year-old Las Vegas resident was southbound on Interstate 15 in the early morning hours of a recent Sunday. According to reports of witnesses, this driver’s reckless driving resulted in him losing control of his car. He reportedly smashed into a Harley Davidson, causing severe injuries to the 43-year-old motorcyclist.

The victim was rushed to a medical center but succumbed later. Another victim with serious injuries was the passenger of the alleged drunk driver. However, the driver who is deemed responsible for this tragedy was uninjured, though he was arrested on several charges and booked into a detention center.

The families who were affected by the actions of this alleged drunk driver may pursue recovery of damages through the Nevada civil justice system. The surviving family members of the deceased biker may file a wrongful death lawsuit in a civil court, and the injured passenger may file a personal injury claim. They will be required to establish negligence on the part of the driver, but once financial liability is formally established, the court will adjudicate all documented claims before entering monetary judgments. These may include both financial losses and emotional damages that were brought about by the accident.
