Alcohol and driving simply do not go together. Dangers and threats are numerous on Nevada roadways these days, and among the most serious of these threats involves drivers under the influence of alcohol. Drivers under the influence of alcohol not only put their own lives at risk but also the lives of other drivers and pedestrians. Driving under the influence of alcohol is a very serious crime that can have far-reaching repercussions. Recently, a Nevada auto accident involving alcohol left one person dead and another person seriously injured.
According to authorities, two people were hit by a vehicle that left the roadway in downtown Las Vegas. The two victims, a 30-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were on a sidewalk sitting on a wall when a car abruptly left the road and hit them. Both victims suffered serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital. The seriously injured man was admitted for treatment of his injuries. Unfortunately, the 28-year-old woman succumbed to her injures.
The driver of the vehicle reportedly fled the scene of the accident. However, he was caught a short time later after crashing into a pole. The negligent driver was arrested and charged with DUI involving death.
The driver could face both wrongful death and personal injuries lawsuits in civil court due to his actions. Anytime a Nevada resident suffers serious injuries or loses a loved one as a result of an act of negligence in an auto accident, he or she has a right to pursue claims for damages, including pain and suffering. Successful lawsuits could provide just compensation to an injured victim facing mounting medical expenses or to a grieving victim’s family trying to handle all of the end-of-life expenses which they are now facing.
