Pedestrian accident in Nevada results in fatality

Pedestrians are literally everywhere in Nevada cities these days. City streets and sidewalks are often heavily congested with foot traffic. This constant flow of foot traffic can pose challenges and risks to drivers and pedestrians alike. With so many people and vehicles in the same place at the same time, it's definitely no surprise that accidents happen. Recently, a pedestrian accident in Reno left a man dead.

According to authorities, a man was using a crosswalk to cross N. Virginia Street in Reno when he was suddenly struck by a car. The driver of the car immediately fled the scene after striking the pedestrian. Local police were able to locate the vehicle; however, the vehicle had been abandoned with the suspect nowhere to be found. The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The following day, the driver of the vehicle turned himself in to authorities. The driver was charged with failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian, driving without a valid driver's license and felony hit and run. Reportedly, marijuana and alcohol were factors in the fatal accident, so the driver could also be facing a bevy of other charges.

Despite using crosswalks and obeying laws, hundreds of pedestrians are injured or killed every year in the state of Nevada. Anytime a Nevada resident suffers injuries or the loss of a loved one due to an act of negligence in a pedestrian accident, he or she has a right to pursue damages for pain and suffering. A successful lawsuit could give just compensation that can be used to cover medical bills and other expenses.
