Driving requires constant focus and the ability to make quick decisions behind the wheel. When alcohol is involved, driving becomes dangerous and often lethal. While under the influence of alcohol, normal brain function is delayed, and a person is typically unable to perform normally. Roadways in Nevada these days are plenty dangerous enough, but throwing alcohol into the mix is a recipe for disaster. Recently, a Reno man was convicted of driving under the influence after causing serious injuries to a pedestrian in a drunk driving accident.

According to reports, the convicted drunk driver struck a pedestrian near a school. The driver negligently drove his car onto a sidewalk, striking the pedestrian and a road sign. The victim claims that the impact of the accident resulted in serious injuries, including a broken collarbone and shoulder blade.

Police reports state that, at the time of the accident, the driver’s blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit. After a trial, the drunk driver was found guilty of DUI causing substantial bodily harm and is currently awaiting sentencing. He faces up to 20 years in prison

Nevada residents know the terrible consequences of drunk driving. When intoxicated people drive, they are not only endangering themselves, but they are endangering the lives of everyone around them. Unfortunately, thousands of people across the country are killed or injured each year in accidents involving alcohol. Anyone in Nevada who suffers injuries or the loss of a loved one from a drunk driving accident may be entitled to financial relief for any monetary damages by pursuing a claim through the civil justice system.
