Just like driving, walking along roadways these days can be a risky endeavour. In many crowded Nevada cities, walking is a main source of transportation. As populations rise, more and more pedestrians are put in harm’s way as they attempt to navigate busy city streets. With so many pedestrians and vehicles in the same vicinity, it is not a question of if a pedestrian accident will occur, but when. One such accident recently claimed the life of a Reno man.
According to reports, the victim was struck by a car while he was attempting to cross a Reno intersection. Police responded to multiple reports of a person down in the road. The driver of the car fled the scene. Local authorities state that the car was traveling east at a high rate of speed when it struck the victim.
Unfortunately, the victim’s injuries were fatal. The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident was later located and arrested. The driver was charged with failure to stop at an injury crash, failure to render aid and driving with a suspended license.
There are laws in place to protect pedestrians, but, despite these laws, the number of accidents involving pedestrians and motor vehicles continues to increase. Because the cities in the great state of Nevada are such wonderful places to live and work, populations are on the rise. As populations rise, so do accidents. It is important for Nevada residents to know that they have the right to pursue damages for injuries or the loss of a loved one due to an act of negligence in a pedestrian accident. A successful lawsuit could provide rightful compensation that a grieving victim’s family deserves.
