Unfortunately, even though most dogs in the state of Nevada are friendly animals with responsible owners, some dogs can be hostile, aggressive and will attack when approached. Even dogs that have been trained and seem harmless can issue a painful bite without warning. Dog bites can cause very serious and permanent injuries. Recently, a woman in another state was awarded nearly $1 million from a successful lawsuit after suffering substantial injuries from a dog bite.

According to the lawsuit, the woman was asked by a local animal clinic to assist with the capture of a dog that had escaped from its leash. After pursuing the dog for more than a block, she located the animal and approached it. The lawsuit says the dog bit the woman on her right thumb when she reached down to pick up the dog.

The woman claims the bite caused lacerations, puncture wounds and severe nerve damage. She underwent four surgeries over the next several years in an attempt to repair the damage caused by the bite. The woman developed a chronic pain syndrome as a result of the bite and surgeries. She was awarded $940,000 by a jury in the historic verdict, which was the largest verdict stemming from a dog bite in the state’s history.

Even when dogs seem friendly, they can still attack and cause painful and lasting injuries. Any Nevada citizen that suffers injuries from dog bites can take legal action against the party or parties believed responsible. A successful lawsuit could result in much-needed compensation as well as a sense of justice.
