Impaired or distracted drivers contribute to pedestrian accidents

Sidewalks along Nevada city streets these days are bustling with foot traffic. These city streets are usually congested with vehicular traffic as well. With pedestrians and automobiles in such close proximity, pedestrian accidents become almost inevitable. With the rise of smart phones, GPS navigation systems and other gadgets, modern drivers can quickly become distracted and take their focus off of the road. Distracted drivers only increase the odds of pedestrian and vehicle encounters.

A recent accident in Las Vegas is an example of the tragedy that often comes with accidents involving pedestrians. The horrific accident occurred at a busy intersection and resulted in the death of three pedestrians. According to police reports, the driver of an SUV rammed another vehicle and fled through the median. The SUV continued through the median and into a crosswalk.

Reports say the three pedestrians were attempting to cross the street when the driver of the SUV collided with them. The driver of the SUV then continued south on the highway and hit three more vehicles, police say. The SUV driver was caught by police and arrested. He was charged with reckless driving as well as various counts of DUI.

Accidents such as these are very preventable. Drivers should never be impaired when getting behind the wheel and should always keep attention and focus on the road. Tragically, pedestrian accidents often result in serious injuries or death. Nevada families that have been affected by an accident such as this can pursue legal action and file a claim. A successful lawsuit could result in rightful compensation to help with the pain and suffering that comes with losing a loved one.
