Its no secret that driving while under the influence of alcohol is one of the most dangerous and irresponsible things a person can do. According to recent statistics, drunk driving is responsible for almost one-third of all deaths in car accidents each year. Nevada has very strict laws in place to combat the problem of drunk driving and those convicted could face very lengthy prison sentences. Unfortunately, drivers still get behind the wheel while impaired, which only contributes to the many dangers facing drivers.

Authorities say a recent accident in Las Vegas was caused by drunk driving. The accident occurred during the early morning hours at a Las Vegas intersection. Police say an eastbound silver truck crossed the center line and collided with a black truck traveling in the opposite direction.

Reports say the head-on collision resulted in injuries to the occupants of the black truck, a young mother and her 1-year-old child. They were transported to a local medical center for treatment. The driver of the silver truck was also transported to a hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries. Police suspect that the driver of the silver truck was under the influence of alcohol.

Despite more stringent laws and increased public awareness, drunk driving continues to be a real problem on roadways in Nevada and across the country. Those who have been injured or lost family members in car accidents with impaired drivers can pursue legal action. Compensation from a successful lawsuit could provide financial relief to those facing mounting medical and/or end-of-life expenses.
