Steps to take after a taxi cab accident

by | Jan 9, 2018 | Car Accidents, Firm News | 0 comments

There is currently a war taking place between taxi cab drivers and ridesharing apps, such as Uber and Lyft. An article in The Atlantic suggested that taxis do have somewhat of an advantage because there are much more rigorous background checks in place for drivers.

Naturally, many people in Nevada, particularly in Las Vegas, rely on taxis to get around. However, it is not unheard of for a taxi driver to end up in an accident. As a passenger, you may wonder what to do if you find yourself in this situation. The steps to take are similar to what you should do if you are the driver involved in an accident.

Make sure the taxi pulls over

It is possible for the taxi driver to try to make a quick getaway. As a passenger, you should implore the driver to pull off to the side of the road. Ensuring that this incident gets on the record will help greatly with your personal injury claim if you suffered a wound.

Assess injuries

You should see a doctor following a car crash even if you think you are all right. If you wait weeks or months to see a doctor, then any injuries you have will be difficult to trace back to the accident.

Notify the police

In the event you do need to go to court to seek damages, a police report will help greatly. Therefore, you should call 911 after a taxi accident. Even if the driver does not want to have the police involved, you need to think about your own best interest.

Document the scene

If you are able to, then you should take pictures of the scene. Take photographs of both vehicles. You can also photograph the surrounding area because it is possible that unsafe road conditions or the weather contributed to the collision. You also want to get the other driver’s information.
