Driving while intoxicated can lead to deadly car accidents

Unfortunately, it seems more and more Nevada drivers these days are irresponsible and unfocused. Driving while under the influence of alcohol can not only result in serious car accidents but can also put offenders behind bars for a very long time. A Reno man was recently sentenced to 40 years in prison for driving drunk and killing two passengers and another driver in a crash.

The man was driving a pickup truck with three passengers and crashed at an intersection in Sparks. Police reports say that the man sped through a stop sign at the intersection and crashed into a small passenger car. A surviving passenger later told police that his friend that died in the crash asked the driver to pull over and let him out of the vehicle, but the driver became angry, sped through the intersection and crashed.

His friend was ejected from the vehicle and died at a local medical center, police reports say. The other victim was a 28-year-old female college student. According to reports, the violent collision also killed the driver of the car. Police arrested the driver of the truck and discovered that the man's blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit and also found marijuana and cocaine in his system. The man was recently convicted and sentenced to two consecutive maximum terms of 20 years in prison.

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon to see news reports each day throughout Nevada covering tragic car accidents that occurred at the hands of reckless, distracted or impaired drivers. Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is extremely dangerous and often ends in deadly car accidents. Those that have been injured or lost loved ones at the hands of a drunk driver can take legal action and file a lawsuit.
