Despite stern legislation and tireless law enforcement efforts, drunk driving continues to be a real problem in Nevada and across the United States. Its common knowledge that operating a vehicle while intoxicated is one of the most dangerous things a person can do, yet people continue to do it. Statistically, car accidents involving drunk drivers have a higher likelihood of being fatal. A recent accident in Las Vegas involving an alleged drunk driver claimed the life of an expectant mother.
The crash involved three vehicles and happened during the morning hours on Rainbow Boulevard. Reports say that a car was traveling north just in front of a Honda SUV. According to accident reports, a Dodge SUV attempted to pass both the car and the Honda. During the pass attempt, the Dodge sideswiped the right side of the Honda and then collided with the rear of the car, reports indicate. The impact caused the car to leave the roadway and crash into a sign pole, police say.
Tragically, medical personnel pronounced the driver of the car dead at the scene. She was an expectant mother pregnant with her second child. The driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries and remained at the scene. Police say the driver of the Dodge fled the scene on foot but was later found and arrested. Police charged him with felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence of alcohol involving death.
Drunk driving is dangerous, irresponsible and the leading cause of fatal car accidents in the United States. Those in Nevada who have been injured or suffered the loss of a loved one at the hands of a drunk driver have the option to take legal action. A successful lawsuit can result in a substantial monetary award as well as a sense of justice.
