Unfortunately, thousands of people each year in Nevada and across the country choose to get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol. Driving while intoxicated is one of the most dangerous and irresponsible things a person can do. According to recent statistics, drunk driver accidents account for almost 30 percent of all traffic related deaths every year in the United States. Those who are found guilty of drunk driving can face significant fines and jail time.

Recently, a woman from Carson City was found guilty of DUI charges after a fatal crash. Reports said the woman crossed the center line of Highway 50 and drove into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The woman’s car crashed head-on into a minivan, authorities said

Reportedly, the woman was traveling at least 60 mph when she crashed into the minivan. Tragically, a passenger in the woman’s car was killed, while three others in the minivan were injured, according to police reports. Police said the woman was arrested and charged with DUI, among other charges. She now faces up to 40 years in prison as a result of the charges.

Statistics say that 29 people die in drunk driver accidents every single day in the United States. This equates to one person being killed almost every 50 minutes. Nevada police have increased efforts in recent years to combat the ongoing problem of drunk driving. Despite this, alcohol related crashes seem to be increasing. Nevada families who have lost a loved one at the hands of a drunk driver can take legal action by filing a wrongful death lawsuit.
