Car accidents with semitrailers often have fatal consequences

The major highways and interstates that conveniently crisscross the state of Nevada are frequently used by commercial traffic. In somewhat of a symbiotic relationship, large commercial vehicles such as semitrailers harmoniously share these roadways with smaller passenger cars and trucks. However, when these big rigs and other large commercial vehicles are involved in car accidents, the consequences can be deadly, most often for the occupants of smaller vehicles.

A recent crash involving a semitrailer and several other vehicles claimed the lives of two men. The accident happened on U.S. 93 just outside of Las Vegas. Reports said traffic was stopped at a construction site along the highway when a tractor-trailer failed to yield to the stopped traffic and barreled into several vehicles.

According to reports, the rig crashed into a Toyota Corolla and continued on, colliding with a Nissan, a Chevrolet and another truck. Tragically, authorities said the two occupants of the Toyota Corolla were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene. The Nevada Highway Patrol said they suspect that the driver of the semitrailer may have fallen asleep behind the wheel, as the driver reportedly admitted to driving while drowsy.

Commercial truck drivers are required to deliver goods and merchandise in an efficient and timely manner, In order to meet delivery deadlines, many drivers are often forced to operate these big rigs on little sleep. Drowsy driving is the byproduct of many uninterrupted hours behind the wheel, and this inevitably leads to car accidents. Those in Nevada who have suffered the loss of a loved one due to negligence in an accident could benefit by consulting an experienced and knowledgeable legal representative.
