Pedestrian accidents have risen dramatically across the country

Accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians are on the rise in Nevada cities. According to records, pedestrian fatalities have risen sharply in recent years and are at an all time high across the United States. Many factors have contributed to the rise in pedestrian accidents, and some of the most common involve cell phone usage and distracted drivers. Visibility also plays a role in these accidents, as roughly 75 percent of fatal pedestrian accidents happen at night. To prevent accidents, both drivers and pedestrians should avoid distractions and remained focused at all times.

A recent hit-and-run accident in Las Vegas left a pedestrian seriously injured. The accident happened during the evening hours on East Charleston. Reports say a Nissan SUV veered into oncoming traffic and struck a vehicle. According to reports, the vehicle that was impacted then struck a pedestrian who was in a crosswalk.

Unfortunately, the pedestrian suffered a broken arm and broken leg, authorities said. Metro police say the driver of the SUV fled the scene and drove into a nearby strip mall. Reportedly, police are still searching for the driver of the SUV and are currently seeking information.

Since pedestrians are totally exposed, any accident is likely to end in serious injury or death. State officials and police forces across the state of Nevada are conducting safety campaigns to bring awareness to the rise in pedestrian accidents. Victims and/or families who have been affected by this type of accident could benefit from discussions with a knowledgeable attorney. If negligence is proved, a successful claim could result in financial relief to help families recover from this tragic experience.
