Take a walk along the streets of Las Vegas and it’s easy to see that dangers are abundant. Roadways across Nevada have become extremely crowded and are growing more dangerous every year. Pedestrians who walk on or near these crowded roads are at an increased risk for serious injuries since they are completely exposed. Unfortunately, pedestrian accidents have risen sharply in recent years.

A tragic pedestrian accident in Las Vegas claimed the life of a mother and her son. The accident happened during the evening hours on Katie Avenue. Reports say the mother was attempting to cross the street with her three young children when they were suddenly struck by a Dodge pickup truck. Authorities said the mother and her three children, two girls ages 2, 3 and one boy age 4, were all injured and transported to a local hospital.

Tragically, the mother and her son both died at the hospital. The other two children were expected to recover, reports said. According to police, the family was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash. Investigators said the driver of the truck did not make an effort to reduce his speed, likely meaning the driver did not see the pedestrians.

Walking is an easy and economical way to get around Las Vegas. Given the health benefits, more and more people these days are choosing to walk instead of drive. Increased foot traffic along congested city streets only equates to pedestrian accidents. Those in Nevada who have suffered injury or loss due to negligence in this type of accident could benefit by seeking the services of an experienced attorney. A successful claim could provide financial support to help recover any monetary losses.
