Unfortunately, driving while under the influence of alcohol continues to be a big problem in the United States. Although it is common knowledge that driving while intoxicated is extremely dangerous, many drivers in Nevada and across the country continue to get behind the wheel while impaired, causing thousands of drunk driver accidents every year. Alcohol significantly delays reaction time and impairs basic motor skills, making it virtually impossible to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Authorities say a recent crash in North Las Vegas may have been caused by an impaired driver. The accident happened at the intersection of North 5th Street and Craig Road during the morning hours. According to reports, an SUV was northbound on 5th Street approaching the intersection while a pickup truck was traveling east on Craig Road.
Reports said the vehicles collided at the intersection after one of the vehicles ran a red light. The drivers of both vehicles were critically injured and rushed to a local hospital, authorities said. While an investigation is ongoing, police say they suspect that the driver of the SUV may have been impaired and ran the red light. The intersection remained partially closed for several hours following crash.
Although police departments and officials in Nevada have made tremendous progress in educating the public about the dangers of drunk driving, there will always be irresponsible drivers who choose to get behind the wheel while intoxicated. This year thousands of people across America will be injured or killed at the hands of drunk drivers. Nevada families who have been affected by drunk driver accidents could benefit from discussions with an experienced attorney. A successful claim could result in damages for victims and families.
