Pedestrian accidents: Pedestrian killed by tractor-trailer

Virtually every Nevada resident is a pedestrian at some point during the day. Pedestrians are unprotected and totally exposed, so pedestrian accidents are more likely to be fatal. When walkers are struck by extremely large vehicles, such as tractor-trailers, the chances of survival are slim. Recently, I-15 in Las Vegas was shut down after a tractor-trailer ran over and killed a pedestrian.

The accident happened at night in the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 at St. Rose Parkway just north of the Sloan exit. According to reports, a pedestrian parked his vehicle on the shoulder of the interstate and began walking along the right side of the roadway. Reports said the pedestrian was then struck by a northbound tractor-trailer.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, authorities said. It was not yet known why the pedestrian abandoned his vehicle and began walking, police said. Reportedly, the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured and was not impaired. Roadways were closed for several hours while the Nevada Highway Patrol conducted an investigation.

As populations continue to rise in Nevada cities, pedestrians are more prevalent than ever before. Drivers and pedestrians both need to stay focused at all times to prevent pedestrian accidents. Families in Nevada who have suffered the loss of a loved one in this type of accident may have grounds to take legal action. A lawsuit, if successful, could result in a substantial monetary award that could help struggling families recover any monetary losses that may have occurred due to this traumatic experience.
